25000 people in 5 slums were reached under the Safe Sanitation project in East Delhi. 5 Community Toilet Complexes (CTCs) and 5 School toilets were improved to improve access of households and school children to safe, appropriate and well managed water and sanitation facilities. The purpose was to inculcate good hygiene behaviour among children and families. Water and sanitation infrastructure in these communities was fixed in partnership with people to ensure sustainability. Government agencies were involved to ensure better targeting of investments and increased spending on service delivery. One of the settlements, became the site for CURE's networking project with a simplified sewer line, networked to the trunk sewer to enable personal toilets.
