Bal Mitra Gram, Agra
Bal Mitra Gram (BMG) is a unique model started under the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) by the Kailash Satyarthi Children Foundation (KSCF) to realize child rights at the grassroots by making villages in India child friendly, where no child is exploited or at work, every child is healthy, receives education, and has opportunities for recreation and voice. BMGs are facilitated through a process of community engagement and participation, where children create legitimate democratic and gendered spaces/platforms for themselves in panchayats, communities, schools and families like the Bal Panchayat, to discuss their issues and influence and localize decision-making in relevant areas of education, child abuse, child labour etc. It is also a means of creating demand and value for good education among parents and igniting mass consciousness for sustainable change. The BMG project shall be implemented in 9 villages of Agra with the overarching aim of making these villages child friendly, where children are free from exploitation, receives education, recreation and health facilities, their voices are heard and participation is ensured in an environment of friendliness, rights and dignity in the community.
