Pocket Reconstruction Project
Maximizing Housing Spaces in Low Income Houses. Delhi, Savda
The project was implemented in Savda Ghevra resettlement area, to help poor households be smart builders of pocket sized housing plots. Design solutions included space maximization - redesigned storage spaces, shelves, doors, cooling and water pumping systems, use of flexi furniture and fittings, etc. Rat-trap bond brick walls and roof linters were added to structural safety. The disaster-proof rat-trap bond technique was used to ensure stable and disaster proof structures. A divided door with a metal screen was designed to increase ventilation and lighting with added security. The disaster-proof rat-trap bond wall and divided door was displayed at the Design for the other 90% Cities Exhibition at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington in January, 2012.
